Relief Printing

Any of several processes where by a block of wood or lino is carved away leaving a raised relief which is the printing surface. Specialised chisels and knives are made for this purpose. The blocks are commonly printed in a type of press called a relief press.

Relief printmaking is one of the oldest forms of printmaking, the oldest fabrics ever found have had relief printed designs.
